My 2014 Highlights with Sans Retouches

My 2014 Highlights with Sans Retouches! As the managing editor of Sans Retouches for more than three years, I personally don’t consider Sans Retouches as a project, but rather as a child of mine. With all the nurturing, hard work and sleepless nights, Sans Retouches is not a 9-5 job that I could hardly wait to get over with. Simply, I consider it as a self-development project. When I started Sans Retouches, I was just out of a relationship and freshly quit my Civil Work part-time job; both of which were draining me emotionally, psychologically and physically.

“I need to do something different with my life,” I said one day as a friend asked me about what I was planning to do next.

Then, Sans Retouches came to life and gradually it became the way it is right now. A lot of developers, authors and contributors have been in and out. Each of them has made a significant change to Sans Retouches, and I will be eternally grateful.

To my close friends and family, I’m highly known to be a neurotic overthinking person who has proved to be a real slop when it comes to planning strategically. With that in mind, I decided to break the social stigma, work on myself and make it a habit to never settle for mediocrity. In 2014, I made a little plan to stay ahead of the game and further develop Sans Retouches.

Meeting Inspirational Figures

I often say that people are the biggest fortune I’ve made through Sans Retouches. Last year, I’ve thankfully continued to do some exclusive and heartily interviews with some of the biggest talents not just around Egypt, but across the region as well.

One of my memorable highlights in 2014 was meeting Egyptian Couturiere Yasmine Yeya whom I had been chasing for more than 6 months. I have always been a fan of her work since Mission Fashion and I pledged to meet the woman and introduce her to my readers. On the set date, I made it to Cairo, asked her PR for directions to get to her atelier in Heliopolis, and only took 15 minutes to get some answers out of one of Egypt’s busiest women.

Releasing the New Sans Retouches Interface

Well, that was SOMETHING. A BIG SOMETHING too! I had to move between Cairo and Alexandria back and forth, send successive emails with tons of feedback, and certainly allocate a whole lot of money for this purpose. The new interface went live in Ramadan and thankfully it’s been a hit. But, we will never settle for anything but the best, so stay tuned as maybe you will find another knock-out interface the next morning!

Sending-out Our First Email Newsletter

That, too, took a lot of time and energy, but it worked out perfectly after reaching thousands of our beloved subscribers.

Hitting Cairo

Cairo has been on my list since forever, but not because I’m the biggest fan of that noisy city, but it is the capital after all. I have been getting invitations to nightlife and fashion events, yet I was a lazy a** who felt satisfied in her comfort zone. This year, I have accompanied Sans Retouches readers to some glamorous events in Cairo to keep them updated on the latest happenings.

Reaching the Big 20

It is no secret that there is a fierce competition among magazines and bloggers across the web. For this reason, some bloggers and magazine owners would think “The more followers, the more successful I must be.” Frankly, I shared the same thought, but I realized that numbers are just overrated while interaction is what we all should shoot for. Recently, Sans Retouches page reached 20 K fans on Facebook, a number that might be considered as too low. However, I believe that the amount of interaction and real followership Sans Retouches has gained in three years is promising. Hopefully, numbers will double in 2015 and we will try to keep our readers eager to read our latest write-ups and features.

That was a wrap of 2014. Such highlights might seem trivial to some people, but they were surely precious to a hidden team that has been sharing their input every now and then. I, for one, take pride in Sans Retouches and will aspire to make our readers take much bigger pride in reading Sans Retouches and checking it on a regular basis.

At the very end, I would love to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! May it all be full of blessings for you and your beloveds.

Cheers!
